Hang on for 2022 – It will be worth it!

Unfortunately, due to ongoing concerns and logistical issues resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, the Committee of Harden Beck Horticultural Society (HBHS) has unanimously decided to cancel this year’s 2021 Annual Show which was due to be held on Sunday 12th September.

Andy Macdonald, Chair of HBHS said “As was the case last year the decision has been put off as long as possible taking on board best advice at the time.

Whilst there is light at the end of the tunnel and lockdown restrictions are being eased the Committee believe there are too many uncertainties to proceed with this year’s show.

As always, the health & safety of our members, exhibitors, volunteers and visitors are our priority.

The Committee is also mindful of the fact that there is a considerable lead in time to prepare for the show and as a registered charity, mindful of our obligations financially to avoid exposing the Society to undue risk.”

The Committee is still working in the background looking at new ways of engaging with the community.

A mini virtual show is something which has been discussed or perhaps taking our popular photographic class online; winning entries being showcased in a 2022 HBHS Calendar?

HBHS would like to thank our members and local community for their continued support.

“The show will go on” in 2022 building on the traditions of the past and looking forward with renewed vigour with the aim of bringing our community together.

The provisional date for the 2022 Annual Harden Show is Sunday 11th September.

Harden Beck Horticultural Society – Alive and Kicking!

To paraphrase a famous expression: Rumours of the demise of HBHS have been greatly exaggerated!

Its true that, due to dwindling committee numbers and helpers generally, there were real concerns the 58th Annual Show a few weeks ago would be the last.

Fortunately, after a rallying call went out via social media and perhaps more significantly by word of mouth, things are “on the up”!

Caring community spirited individuals have come forward with new ideas and enthusiasm. The prognosis looks encouraging!

Tasks have been assigned and its all systems go for next year and beyond!

However further help is always welcome.

Can you spare a little time to help with jobs such as distributing the show schedule, erecting the polytunnel and marquees in the show field and all the other paraphernalia required to put on the summer show?

How about getting involved in a springtime ‘working party’ in the show field to repair and improve the polytunnel show space and field?

Are you a local plumber, electrician or handy-person who can offer hands on support?

HBHS is a registered charity and as with all charitable organisation’s volunteers, funding, sponsorship and donations are vital to secure the future and hopefully help us to develop and expand links with the local community.

Did you know it costs just £6 to sponsor a class at the annual summer show? Is that something you could do? You may see this as an opportunity to remember a loved one by sponsoring a class in their memory or a positive way to promote a business.

£40 gets you a half page advert in the show schedule. £70 a full page.

A great opportunity for businesses to support the Society and reach new local customers.

HBHS has the potential to be a fantastic community asset which can bring people together.

Let’s not lose it!

Next year’s summer show will be on Sunday 13th September 2020. Look out for updates on social media – Facebook.com/hbhsharden or www.hardenshow.co.uk Or Contact Andy Macdonald, Chair. HBHS, a-macdonald6@sky.com or 07961283934
