Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Harden Beck Horticultural Society has announced the cancellation of its 59th Annual Show which was due to be held on Sunday 13th September 2020.

The Show Must Go On - but not this year!

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Harden Beck Horticultural Society has announced the cancellation of its 59th Annual Show which was due to be held on Sunday 13th September 2020.

Andy Macdonald, Chair. of the Society, said "the decision has been put off as long as possible. Despite some lifting of lockdown restrictions and a constantly changing situation, things have not improved sufficiently to allow the show to safely go ahead.

The health and safety of our members, volunteers, exhibitors and visitors is our priority".

At a time when gardening, home baking, developing skills making arts & crafts have become increasingly important for people its ironic that a show celebrating such cannot go ahead.

At this time HBHS would like to thank our members, sponsors and local community for their continued support..
Its much appreciated.

The Committee will continue to work tirelessly in the background to develop the Society and promote new ideas.

Hopefully next years show will be a bumper event and a focal point for reconnecting and bringing our community together.

Andy Macdonald, Chair. HBHS

Harden Beck Horticultural Society – Alive and Kicking!

To paraphrase a famous expression: Rumours of the demise of HBHS have been greatly exaggerated!

Its true that, due to dwindling committee numbers and helpers generally, there were real concerns the 58th Annual Show a few weeks ago would be the last.

Fortunately, after a rallying call went out via social media and perhaps more significantly by word of mouth, things are “on the up”!

Caring community spirited individuals have come forward with new ideas and enthusiasm. The prognosis looks encouraging!

Tasks have been assigned and its all systems go for next year and beyond!

However further help is always welcome.

Can you spare a little time to help with jobs such as distributing the show schedule, erecting the polytunnel and marquees in the show field and all the other paraphernalia required to put on the summer show?

How about getting involved in a springtime ‘working party’ in the show field to repair and improve the polytunnel show space and field?

Are you a local plumber, electrician or handy-person who can offer hands on support?

HBHS is a registered charity and as with all charitable organisation’s volunteers, funding, sponsorship and donations are vital to secure the future and hopefully help us to develop and expand links with the local community.

Did you know it costs just £6 to sponsor a class at the annual summer show? Is that something you could do? You may see this as an opportunity to remember a loved one by sponsoring a class in their memory or a positive way to promote a business.

£40 gets you a half page advert in the show schedule. £70 a full page.

A great opportunity for businesses to support the Society and reach new local customers.

HBHS has the potential to be a fantastic community asset which can bring people together.

Let’s not lose it!

Next year’s summer show will be on Sunday 13th September 2020. Look out for updates on social media – Facebook.com/hbhsharden or www.hardenshow.co.uk Or Contact Andy Macdonald, Chair. HBHS, a-macdonald6@sky.com or 07961283934
